About Marberry Cleaners
THE PAST
In 1911, George Neumark, an ambitious engineer, founded Illinois Cleaners as a comprehensive service offering cleaning, laundering, and furrier services. For decades, the company thrived as a robust cleaning operation catering to the suburbs of Chicago.
However, in the 1960s, the dry cleaning industry faced a significant downturn during the "polyester years," witnessing a sharp decline in the number of dry cleaners from 40,000 to 18,000 within just four years. Recognizing an opportunity amidst the challenges, the Marberry family, led by William Marberry and his four sons, entered the cleaning business. They strategically acquired several prominent cleaners in Chicago's western suburbs.
Over the subsequent 30 years, Marberry–Illinois Cleaners has not only weathered the industry's turbulent times but also experienced substantial growth in retail cleaning and home delivery. This strategic approach propelled us to become the largest cleaner in Illinois, solidifying our position as a key player in the regional cleaning industry.
THE PRESENT
